01. Industrial coatings & construction

Inspection software, BOL pipelines, and coatings documentation that holds up.

Operational software for industrial coatings shops, applicators, and inspection firms. AMPP-grade reporting, QP-compliant workflows, field-first mobile. Built from inside the industry. DocuPaint runs in 200+ organizations, Rolling Plains uses our BOL pipeline daily.

01. The work

Coatings is the most paperwork-heavy industry that nobody talks about.

Every job runs on a stack of documents: surface prep specs, profile readings, mil thickness logs, holiday tests, environmental conditions, applicator certifications, batch numbers, owner sign-offs. One bridge project can produce 400 pages of inspection records before the first coat dries.

The industry runs on a mix of clipboards, Excel templates, PDF forms, email chains, and whatever the GC’s owner-rep happens to demand this week. AMPP-endorsed templates exist. So do dozens of “field reporting apps” written by someone who’s never been in a confined space at 6 a.m. wearing a Tyvek suit and a fresh-air supply.

The buyers we work with. Applicators, inspection firms, and owner reps aren’t waiting for a generic “construction app.” They’re looking for software that understands what SSPC-SP10 means, why a wet film gauge reading matters, and how to keep a QP-1 audit trail intact when the inspector’s tablet dies in 110° heat.

02. What we build

Software that fits the way coatings work happens.

01

Inspection & documentation platforms

AMPP/SSPC-aligned report templates, daily inspection logs, environmental capture (temperature, humidity, dew point), DFT readings tied to spec, holiday detection records, photo capture with metadata, full audit trail. Mobile-first, offline-capable, built for gloves and low-signal environments. See how AI cleans up field documents

Procore integrations& API connectors

For shops already standardized on Procore, we build the field-side and integration-side pieces Procore alone doesn’t cover. Custom inspection capture writing back to Procore, ERP sync (SAP, NetSuite, Sage 300 CRE), webhook-driven reporting, and OAuth-based access for owner-rep portals.

03. Stack & integrations

The pipes that a coatings shop runs on.

Standards encoded:SSPC-SP1 through SP11, ISO 8501 surface profiles, AMPP CAS & CIP curricula, NACE-aligned inspection workflows. QP-1, QP-3, and QP-5 audit chain. The report templates aren’t guesses. They’re built from the actual standards docs.

ERP & accounting: Sage 300 CRE (Timberline), Vista by Viewpoint, NetSuite, SAP S/4HANA, QuickBooks. Job-cost flow, AP/AR sync, certified-payroll prep, IFTA when freight is involved.

Project & document platforms: Procore, Autodesk Construction Cloud, PlanGrid, Bluebeam Studio. API and webhook-driven sync, OAuth-based external access for owner-reps and GCs.

Field hardware: iPad Pro, Samsung Galaxy Tab Active, Zebra rugged tablets, ruggedized iPhones. Bluetooth integration for DeFelsko PosiTector and Elcometer DFT gauges, Kestrel environmental meters, holiday-test instruments.

Reporting & signatures: Server-side PDF generation matching AMPP-endorsed templates, DocuSign / Adobe Sign integrations for owner sign-off, audit-grade timestamping and chain-of-custody.

Backend:NestJS or Next.js, Postgres, Redis, AWS. Built for multi-tenant operations where each shop’s data is fully separated and each owner-rep portal sees only their projects.

04. Proof

DocuPaint. Four years in the field.

What started as a single inspection app for one coatings shop is now an AMPP-endorsed platform used in over 200 organizations across North America. We designed it, built it, and still maintain it.

Rolling Plains runs their BOL intake on infrastructure we built. Their dispatch and project setup have been on the same pipeline for three years.

05. Why us

We’ve been inside this industry for years.

Most software firms learn the industry on your dime. We learned it on someone else’s, four years ago, and we still have the receipts.

01

AMPP / SSPC fluency

We can read an SSPC-SP10 spec, recognize when a coating system is mismatched to substrate, and know what a QP-1 auditor will ask for. You don’t have to translate the work.

02

Field-first design

Our inspection app was tested by inspectors wearing gloves in confined spaces. If a feature requires three taps when one would do, it gets cut.

03

Owner-rep mindset

We’ve built portals for both sides of the table. Applicators delivering reports, owner-reps consuming them. We design with the audit chain in mind, not just the data entry.

04

Long-term partnerships

Our coatings quality control platform has been in production for 4+ years. We’re still shipping improvements every sprint. The retainer model isn’t a side offering. It’s how we work.

06. FAQ

Common questions, straight answers.

Do you build inspection software aligned to AMPP, SSPC, or NACE standards?

All three. AMPP merged the SSPC and NACE bodies in 2021, but the underlying standards (SSPC-SP1 through SP10/SP11, NACE inspection certifications, ISO 8501 surface profiles) still ship into specs daily. We've encoded report templates, surface-prep workflows, and DFT capture against those standards. DocuPaint is AMPP-endorsed; if you're filing reports to QP-1, QP-3, or QP-5 audit standards, the software has to keep an audit-grade trail and ours does.

Can you build custom integrations with Procore?

Yes. That's a standalone service of ours. Field inspection capture writing back to Procore daily logs, document sync via the Procore API, OAuth-based access for owner-rep portals, and webhook-driven status updates. We work with shops already standardized on Procore that need the field-side and back-office pieces Procore alone doesn't cover. The /integrations/procore page on this site goes into more detail.

What about ERP integration. SAP, NetSuite, Sage 300 CRE, Vista?

Yes. Most coatings operations run accounting on a construction-specific ERP. We've shipped data flows for Sage 300 CRE (Timberline), NetSuite, SAP, and Vista. Project setup, job costing, AP/AR sync, and certified-payroll preparation. The integration is usually where construction software implementations break. We treat it as a real workstream, not a checkbox.

What field hardware does your inspection app run on?

iPad Pro (most common. Best stylus support and screen visibility in sun), Samsung Galaxy Tab Active and rugged Android tablets (preferred when shops are buying through a corporate Android program), and ruggedized iPhones for inspectors who don't carry a tablet. Photo capture, signature capture, and DFT/holiday-test entry all work in gloves and offline.

Can you connect digital DFT gauges or environmental meters directly to the report?

Yes. DeFelsko PosiTector and Elcometer gauges with Bluetooth, Kestrel weather meters, and a few specialty holiday-test devices. Direct readings flow into the report instead of being transcribed by hand. Cuts inspection time substantially and removes a class of transcription errors that auditors flag.

Do you build for owner-reps, applicators, or inspection firms?

All three, but the software shape differs. Owner-reps want consumption views and audit chain. Applicators want field-first capture and report turnaround. Inspection firms want multi-client multi-tenant with white-label. We've shipped for each. DocuPaint covers all three roles in one platform with role-based access, but a focused build for one type of buyer is also fine.

How long does a coatings software build take?

First field deployment of a focused inspection app: 12 to 16 weeks. Multi-tenant platform with portals, integrations, and reporting: 6 to 9 months for v1. We don't ship in waterfall. Inspectors are using the new system on a real project within the first 6 weeks.

Where are you based and do you work with shops outside Phoenix?

Phoenix HQ, plus a Los Angeles office and engineers across two time zones. Most of our coatings work has been with shops in the Mountain West, Texas, the Gulf Coast, and the Pacific Northwest. We work remotely with operations across North America. Coatings work is rarely co-located anyway.
